Confidentiality
Counselling sessions are normally completely confidential, but there are limitations to this, including in cases of serious crimes or if you or another person is at risk. In some circumstances I have a legal obligation to inform relevant authorities. Details about the limits of confidentiality are all on my counselling contract which I will ask you to read before we meet, and to sign.
Supervision
It is considered good practice for all counsellors to attend regular supervision sessions to talk about and seek guidance and greater clarity about their work. During supervision, clients are never identified by their full name and no client contact details are shared. Supervision assists and supports me to work professionally with you so that you benefit as much as possible from the counselling process. Supervisors are also bound by a code of ethics from their chosen professional body and have the same obligations to protect confidentiality and clients’ identities as I do.
