Appointment Availability for
'Intensive' Infrequent Therapy/Single Session Therapy
Intensive infrequent therapy might suit you if...
-
You think counselling might be helpful, but you don't want to commit to weekly appointments, maybe due to lack of time or lack of money
-
You want longer between sessions to process what you explore before returning at a later date
-
You want a one-off session, but longer than the usual 50 minutes, and without long-term commitment
I now offer 'intensive' infrequent, one-off, counselling appointments during one week per month. Dates are published up to 3 months in advance so you have time to plan ahead. During the available week, you can choose to book an appointment for 90 minutes or 2 hours. Subsequent appointments, if you choose to have them, can be for 60 or 90 minutes.
If you're not sure if infrequent therapy is right for you, please read the section under the published dates, below, to help you decide.
Payment is pro-rata, based on £50 per hour (eg: 1 hour for £50, 90 mins for £75, 2 hours for £100, etc)
You may prefer to seek a different counsellor if ongoing weekly sessions are more suited to your needs.
Please email me, Zana, to discuss your needs and to book your sessions: zanaparker@gmail.com
Appointments are held in-person near Totton, Hampshire, UK. We can also meet online using GoogleMeet.

Infrequent, Intensive, One-Off Therapy/Monthly Sessions
Infrequent, 'intensive', one-off, or 'single session' therapy sessions aren't right for everyone, but might suit you if you have one particular thing you want to explore or address without committing to longer-term, weekly therapy. 'Single session' doesn't mean that you're limited to only meeting once. Instead, it means that when we meet, we have the intention of working on or towards a specific thing in one session. You might like to think of this as infrequent, intensive therapy. After that one session, if you have found it beneficial and would like to meet again we can potentially arrange that for a few weeks' time without long-term commitment. All you commit to is one session at a time.
I no longer offer weekly appointments, so you need to consider whether gaps of several weeks between appointments are the best way forward for you, or whether a different therapist would be more suited to your needs. There is no particular formula or plan for each session. As an experienced counsellor of some 15 years, I am guided by your needs and will adapt each session to suit what you bring.
Here are some examples of the kinds of things that you might use a one-off, intensive, counselling session for:
-
to learn skills that help you manage anxiety more effectively
-
as a 'sounding board' for something you've been mulling over
-
to help you reach a decision about something
-
to learn and use self-regulation techniques
-
to explore how you might change the way you relate to another person
-
identify a goal and create a plan that feels right for you
-
remind yourself of what you can do
-
feel listened to, heard and validated
-
experience Rewind Technique to help you process difficult memories or experiences (email me to discuss suitability)
Or, given my many years' experience as a 'birth-worker', devising and delivering antenatal education and hypnobirthing courses for 100s of new parents, you might like to...
-
unpick a previous difficult birth experience, gaining greater insight into what might have happened
-
blend counselling with antenatal education
-
consider, plan and prepare differently for your next baby's birth
-
book a 2-hour breathing and relaxation session for you and your birth partner
-
explore hypnobirthing
If you had a difficult birth experience last time, I am trained and experienced in working with previous birth trauma and grief. However, if you are processing a difficult or devastating experience, you might prefer to work with a counsellor who has weekly availability.
Single session therapy tends to be more goal-orientated than weekly ongoing therapy, so if you want to explore something in ongoing great relational depth, you might prefer to seek a counsellor who offers this.
Please note that single session therapy will be most effective if we arrange to meet for a minimum of 90 minutes. Two hours would be ideal. I will email you some forms to complete and return before we meet. This will include asking you in advance to tell me more about yourself and about what has brought you to counselling, so that when we meet, we use our time together as efficiently as possible. If, at the end of your single session, you decide that you would like another session, we can book this (depending on availability) for the following month, or later.
Cost
£50 per hour, pro rata, so..
90 minutes: £75
2 hours: £100
Payment is required, in full, a minimum of 48 hours in advance, by bank transfer (details supplied by email)
Your fee includes pre-meeting exchange of information and assessment
Appointments offered during one week per month, on the published dates, as above.

Location
I work from a dedicated room in my home, with its own entrance straight from the street - there is no need to walk through my house. I live just outside Totton, just off the main A35 between Totton and Ashurst. I am easy to get to from Totton, Hythe and the Waterside, Southampton, Romsey, Winchester and the New Forest. There is free on-street parking. There are nearby bus stops linking Southampton, Totton, the New Forest and the Waterside (BlueStar buses 6, 8, 9). Totton railway station is approx 0.8 miles away.
With regard to accessibility, the approach is up a sloped driveway, past a parked vehicle and there are 3 steep-ish and narrow steps up into my counselling room. Once inside, there is a small step up to the toilet.
If you live a long way from Totton we can also meet online using GoogleMeet.
